What is Nostr?
Nostr (Notes and Other Stuff Transmitted by Relays) is a simple, open protocol for decentralised social networking. Unlike traditional social media, no single company controls your data, your identity, or your reach.
Why Nostr?
- Censorship-resistant — No one can ban you or delete your posts
- Decentralised — Your identity is a cryptographic key pair, not an account on a server
- Interoperable — Many clients, one protocol
- Bitcoin-native — Zaps (Lightning tips) are built in
- Portable — Take your followers and identity anywhere
Getting Started
- Choose a client — Damus (iOS), Amethyst (Android), Primal (web/mobile), or Snort (web)
- Create your keys — Your client will generate a public/private key pair
- Back up your private key — This is your identity. Lose it and you lose your account
- Find people — Search for Bitcoin Runners and fellow community members
- Connect a Lightning wallet — Enable zaps to send and receive sats
